The Scientific Computation Group (also known as "SciCom") exists within the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. We also have affiliations with the Department of Applied Mathematics here at UW. All professors are cross-appointed to Applied Math, and we accept graduate students in both computer science and applied math.

A general summary of our goals:

  • To make research contributions to computing for engineering, scientific, medical and financial applications, including the development of techniques and algorithms
  • To incorporate this research into software
  • To train high quality graduate students
